Widex Allure Brings New Clarity to a Lifetime of Hearing Challenges

For Dr. Ronnie Ghuneim, hearing loss has been a constant companion since early childhood. Diagnosed at just five years old, he has tried nearly every type of device available, from bulky analog models to modern digital aids promising smarter sound processing. “I can’t really hear without hearing aids, so they’ve always been essential,” Ghuneim said. “But noisy environments like operating rooms, restaurants, meetings, and cars have always been the hardest, even with the latest and greatest hearing aids. That’s where every device seems to fall short."

As a physician practicing in Arlington Heights, Illinois, Dr. Ghuneim also faced particular challenges in professional settings. Surgical tools and background noise made it nearly impossible to follow conversations; and during the pandemic, masks removed the visual cues of lip reading, compounding the difficulty. With Allure, those once-overwhelming situations became manageable, with speech clarity cutting through even the toughest noise.

After decades of trial and error, Dr. Ghuneim recently turned to Dr. Ryland Gallagher at Northwest Speech and Hearing Center, who recommended trying Widex Allure™. From the first fitting, he noticed a profound difference. “What stood out immediately was the natural sound and how clearly I could follow speech in difficult, noisy environments,” he said. “For the first time in years, I didn’t feel like I was inside an echo chamber and everything was crisp and balanced. I walked out of the office, into the hallway, through the lobby, and even into my car. I never once thought I needed to switch back to my old devices for comparison. That was a first for me.”

A Solution He Can Trust

Unlike previous aids that required endless tweaking, Allure delivered clarity in multiple settings without the need for constant adjustments. “A hearing aid should work right out of the box,” he added. “You shouldn’t need to pull out your phone in the middle of a conversation to fine-tune things. With Allure, I could just put them in and go.”

Dr. Ghuneim quickly discovered that there’s a first for everything: he had no desire to adjust the programming after his first fitting. “For the first time ever, I told my audiologist, ‘Don’t touch anything. Leave them as they are.’ That’s how comfortable I feel with them.”

Another area where Allure surprised Dr. Ghuneim was Bluetooth connectivity. In the past, he often struggled with dropped calls, poor streaming quality, and frustrating reconnections during video meetings or phone calls. With Allure, those issues have largely disappeared.

“I use Bluetooth constantly for phone calls, Zoom, movies, music,” he said. “With other devices, I’d get complaints from people on the other end that my voice was cut out or the sound dropped. With Allure, those problems are gone. The connection is stable, and I can finally rely on it.”

Battery life is also a critical feature. “I put them in at five in the morning and don’t take them out until midnight,” he said. “Even on the rare days I forget to charge them properly, I still get hours of use the next day,” he explained. “That’s a big relief, especially as a doctor moving from one appointment to the other.”

For someone who has spent over 50 years navigating hearing loss and trying nearly every solution, Widex Allure has proved to be a major breakthrough. “These are by far the best hearing aids I’ve ever worn,” he concluded. “They give me the most natural sound I’ve had since childhood, and that’s something I never thought I’d be able to say.”
