Widex Allure Elevates Every Sound for Composer Tomas Henriques

For Tomas Henriques, sound is a lifelong pursuit. A composer by trade with a PhD in music composition, Henriques applies his expertise in electronic music and 3D spatial audio at a research facility in Buffalo, New York, where he works with immersive sound installations.

That’s why, when hearing loss in one ear began to interfere with his work several years ago, his search for a superior-sounding hearing aid became the top priority. “I work with sound at its core,” he said. “So when I started looking for hearing aids, I wasn’t just looking for volume — I was looking for naturalness, warmth, and precise audio localization. Something that would continue to propel my career forward, instead of inhibiting it.”

After trying a variety of brands and models, Henriques discovered Widex Beyond in 2017. According to him, the difference from other models was immediate. “The sound felt right,” he recalled. “It was warm, realistic, and natural. And most importantly for me, it allowed for incredibly precise sound localization.”

A New Generation of Speech Clarity Takes Hold

Fast forward to 2025: just when Henriques thought that hearing aid sound couldn’t get any better, it did. Henriques visited HCP Nicole Ball at Life Sounds Audiology for a visit and was encouraged to try on a pair of the new Widex Allure™ hearing aids. Widex Allure turned out to be the next significant step forward in sound quality – both for Henriques’ career and his ability to enjoy socializing in public environments.

While he didn’t notice a major change in the musicality or frequency range of the sound compared to Beyond, the improvement in speech performance was immediately apparent. “The audio still sounds natural, which is critical for me,” he said. “But the real leap forward with Allure is in speech processing. That’s where I’ve seen the biggest difference; I can follow conversations much more easily, which has since improved my quality of life.”

A Real-World Sound Test

Henriques happened to receive his Widex Allure hearing aids just as a local music festival kicked off in Buffalo (a notably tough hearing environment for people with hearing loss). Over the course of a few weeks, he attended several live performances, putting his new hearing aids to the test.

“I had the chance to hear Allure across a range of environments,” he said. “From concert halls to social settings, it performed beautifully. I never felt like I was hearing through a filter.”

His experience confirmed what he’d long believed about Widex hearing aids: they aren’t just functional, they’re immersive. “As someone who lives in the world of sound, I need my hearing aids to give me more than volume. They have to restore richness, space, and direction. Widex gets that right.”

Everyday Hearing That Just Works

For Henriques, the brilliance of Widex Allure lies in its ability to meet the high standards of a professional sound environment while also delivering on the basics that matter most in daily life. “Yes, I need precision for my work, but at the end of the day, I also need to understand the person talking across the dinner table. Widex delivers on both,” he said.
