Summer care for hearing aids: tips to protect your hearing aids during summer

For most people, summer is our favourite time of the year. But, for hearing aid users, the warmer months can bring on a particular set of challenges. Here are a few tips on how to take care of your hearing aids and make the most of the summer months.

Power to the People

For most of us, summer means spending more time on the road, at the beach, at a picnic – or just enjoying the great outdoors. Remember to bring an extra set of batteries wherever you go. That way, you never have to worry about running out of power.

Sunscreen: great for people, not so great for hearing aids

Nobody likes getting sunburnt. So, if you spend a significant amount of time out in the sun, wearing sunscreen is sound advice. But don’t get sunscreen on your hearing aids. Sunscreen contains oils and chemicals that may damage your hearing aids. A good approach is to apply sunscreen before you put your hearing aids on.

Dry heat

Hearing aids are electronic devices that fare best when kept dry, even if your hearing aids are water-resistant. Keeping them away from sweat and moisture is a good idea. Bring a rag or a piece of cloth with you and use it to dry your hearing aids a few times during the day.
